The Jordanian Bureau of Public Statistics said that the rate of inflation rose to 4.6% on an annual basis in the first quarter of the year, and it is expected that inflation hovers between 4% and 5% in the current year.

Egyptian Interior Ministry responds to parliament: We are not occupying forces

Cairo, Egypt -- The repercussions of the protests, which Egypt witnessed last Tuesday, extended to the halls of Parliament where the two committees of Defense and National Security and Human Rights held a joint meeting Thursday, in order to discuss "excesses" related to police forces, while an official with the Interior Ministry answered members of Parliament saying that police forces are "not occupation forces".

An assistant of the Interior Minister for legal affairs General Hamid Rashid asked members of parliament who have facts proving the occurrence of excesses from some officers, to present them to the public prosecutor for investigation, stressing that the Interior Ministry "does not hide itself from a mistake" and "does not protect corrupt (officials)", according to what reported the official Middle East News Agency. The official newspaper Al Ahram on the front of its first page at the beginning of the week said that "the Interior Ministry is imposing its control over the market for hashish", indicating that "a report by the General Security apparatus affirmed the complete termination of the hashish trade.

Lebanese president Michel Suleiman held talks with the Emir of Qatar Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in Doha which Suleiman arrived to it yesterday, on his visit for one day accompanied by a ministerial delegation.

The talks were centered, according to a statement of the information office of Baabda Palace, on "relations between the two countries, Arab-Arab relations, and the situation in the Middle East".

Ambush by Maoists shocks India

Seventy-five Indian security men were killed, at least, and seven others were injured in an ambush set by Maoist rebels in the center of the country, which made the most bloody operation against security forces in years.

The attack ocurred in a region of dense forests and remote in the Dantewada region which is located at a distance of 450 kilometers from Raipur, the capital of the state of Chhattisgarh and is one of the strongholds of the Maoist rebels.
